烏渓橋 (Wu Xi Qiao)

In General:

This bridge showed structural damage, severe shear failure of pier and separation at the construction joint. The end girder fell down. This could be caused by compression of foundation.

Diagnosis:

Measuring the diameter and spacing of longitudinal bars in the piers, the amount of longitudinal reinforcement must be very little although the seismic force could be extra large. In addition, the treatment of construction joint might not be sufficient enough.
